A 14-year-old girl reportedly set herself on fire and died at an isolated place near her home at Kalloorkadu, near Muvattupuzha on Wednesday. A suicide note was found near her body.
The girl was missing from home since Tuesday. The half burnt body of the girl was spotted by the local people on Wednesday morning.
According to police, the suicide note found from near her body stated that she is committing suicide for the good of the family as she has become a burden to the family.
The police said that the pressure from the family might have led to her suicide.
“Last week we had arrested a person for attempting to harass the girl. He is in jail now. Besides, the father of the girl is an alcoholic and her mother frequently complained about this to the police,” a police official said.
The police officials said that she had used kerosene for burning herself.
The body was shifted to the Taluk Hospital and it will be handed over to the relatives after the postmortem examination on Thursday.
