Medicine and treatment should be included in the fundamental rights of the citizens, Justice K Radhakrishnan said here on Wednesday.

He was speaking after inaugurating the Sree Narayana Law College at Poothotta.

“The expenses for treatment of various diseases at both government and private hospitals have become unaffordable for the common people. To make a difference to the situation, the state should take steps to control the steep hike in the price of medicines,” he added.

The justice further said that the quality of education should be increased at the law colleges. “Though our students are talented, they are not getting proper training to bring out their talents. Considering this, better training to improve their communication skills should be given priority,” he said.

Excise Minister K Babu presided over the function. Affiliated to the MG University, the Poothotta Law College offers three year and five year LLB courses.

Sixty students each will be given admission to both the courses. 50 per cent seats will be allotted on merit while the remaining 50 will be under management quota.

K V Mohanan, who retired from Thrissur Government Law College, will be the principal of the College.
