Thiruvathira Dancers Set World Record

Setting a world record, over 3,000 performers swayed to the rhythm of Thiruvathira in Athira Kulirnila Nritholsavam organised at Durbar Hall on Saturday.

Setting a world record, over 3,000 performers swayed to the rhythm of Thiruvathira in Athira Kulirnila Nritholsavam organised at Durbar Hall on Saturday.

Exactly 3,023 performers participated in the fest, thereby breaking the record set by the Mumbai Pooram Foundation with 2,639 women participating in an event held in Mumbai in November 2012. The Thiruvathira dance was organised by Parvanendu School of Thiruvathira and  District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC).

District Collector P I Sheik Pareeth, who is the chairman of DTPC, confirmed that there were 3,000 participants, thereby setting a record.

Females from three-year-old to 75-year-old participated in the event.

Cusat, with 80 students performing, was the sole institution that participated in the event. The programme lasted for 28 minutes.

For the first 18 minutes, women played on the ground performing Ganapathy, padam (from Uttaraswayamvaram), Kurathi, Kummi, Thudichukulippattu, Pooppattu, nadan pattu, vanchipattu, which was then followed by ‘Pinnal Thiruvathira’ for 10 minutes in the stage.

The performance concluded by ‘Mangalam’.

Union Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies K V Thomas inaugurated the event. GCDA Chairman N Venugopal and Malathy G Menon, Director, Parvanendu School of Thiruvathira, also attended.
