The art community, friends and family members of artist C N Karunakaran bid him adieu on Sunday.

The master painter had passed away on Saturday afternoon.

His body was cremated at Ravipuram crematorium with state honours at 12.15 pm. His son, Ayilayan, lit the pyre.

People from all walks of life, mainly from art, cinema and politics, paid their last respects to the artist when his body was on display at his residence at Mamangalam.

Those who visited his house included MLAs Benny Behanan and Jose Thettayil, CITU leader M M Lawrence, Kerala Lalitha Kala Akademi chairman K A Francis, secretary Sreemoolangaram Mohan, film makers T V Chandran, K R Mohanan, Renji Panikker, P T Kunhimuhammed, actor V K Sreeraman, poet Rafeeq Ahmed and artist Kaladharan.

The body was taken from the house at 11.30 am.

Minister for Cultural Affairs K C Joseph paid a floral tribute to the departed painter on Saturday night.
