Long hours of consultation at his clinic in Kuttiyadi does not make Dr D Sachith tired and worn out. After his service at the clinic he goes directly to take class for parents on scientific parenting. Amidst this tight schedule he also finds time to be with farmers.
This undying passion for profession and commitment to people made the 48 -year-old doctor eligible for the state-level award for the best family doctor of the year, instituted by the Indian Medical Association recently.
At the reception accorded to Dr Sachith, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran said, “Sachith is an ideal doctor as he empathises with patients and understands their needs. The award was bestowed upon him considering his popularity, expertise and commitment to society.”
The doctor turns eloquent when asked about his ongoing projects for people in his region. The ‘Centre for Learning,’ set up around eight years ago in Kuttiyadi for students with learning disabilities (dyslexia), helped him to outsmart the other doctors in the list for the state-level award for the best family doctor.
Dr Sachith has not confined his service to the four walls of the clinic in Kuttiyadi. He heads the Farmers Association for Resource Management (FARM), a society of 20 farmers, at Maruthonkara in Thottilpalam.
His hard work and devotion to cultivation turned FARM into one of the most reliable sources of organic vegetables for the natives of Kuttiyadi, Vadakara, Valayam and Thottilpalam in Kozhikode.
What makes his cultivation more special is the noble cause behind it. “I am doing cultivation to support children with learning impairment,” he says. Properly channeling the interest of students with dyslexia, he has trained around 1,800 students at his centre. “Still there are students who need attention and care from parents and teachers. I am planning more awareness programmes on dyslexia,” he says.
Sachith imparts training in scientific parenting to 35 families thrice a week in rural regions, including Nadapuram, Maruthonkara and many other places.
“I was overwhelmed when a child approached me to thank me for giving proper training to her parents on caring a child.
She said her parents stopped beating her for simple mistakes after attending his class. The glitter in her eyes made me feel good inside and inspired me to carry out more such social activities,” says Sachith.
“For us Dr Sachith is truly a caregiver,” says P P Dinesh, a teacher at Nittoor LP School near Kuttiyadi. As an active member of the OISCA International Kuttiyadi chapter, he has spearheaded several exemplary projects for people.
