Facebook aborts weddings too

Toby Antony

A lot has been written about how relationships happen through social  networking sites. But, in a twist to the tale, many cases are being filed  with the police wherein fake Facebook profiles are used to break possible alliances.

According to the police, as many as seven cases were reported during the last one week wherein attempts were made through Facebook to abort weddings.

In all the cases, fake profiles of the women were created to mislead the would-be groom.

“With increasing number of the people using the social networking sites, many people resort to such sites to incite trouble. They  copy the image of the girl from her original profile and use it to create a fake profile.

They spread malicious information and upload objectionable and fake pictures to disdain the would be-groom from the wedding,” a police official said.

In many cases, the girl comes to know about such a profile only when she is informed by the boy or his family. The girls’ names were slighty changed in the fake profile.

Meanwhile, investigation is on to track people behind the cyber crime.

The police are probing whether there is any organised group behind such activities.
