Express News Service

The Kerala High Court on Thursday ordered demolition of the illegal construction of the Kapico Kerala Resorts (P) Ltd at Nediathuruthu Island in Alappuzha district. A Division Bench comprising Justice KM Joseph and Justice A Harilal issued the order on a petition filed by Matsyathozhilali congress.

The court found that the resort was constructed in violation of the coastal regulations zone laws. The resort owner had not obtained clearance from the State Coastal Management Authority. Kapico Kerala Resorts (P) Ltd had constructed villas, an auditorium and a swimming pool on the island  without obtaining permission to reclaim the land, the petitioner alleged. It further submitted the the resort had encroached on the Vembanad lake all around the island and had set up a boat jetty in the reclaimed portion of the lake. The petitioners have allegedly lost their permanent source of income due to the illegal reclamation of the lake and construction in the Nediathuruth island reclaiming the area.
