Act-A Centre for Theatre is offering another memorable eve for theatre connoisseurs. ‘Matsyagandi’, the famous play by renowned drama artist Sajitha Madathil, will be staged at Town Hall on Monday at 7 pm. ‘Matsyagandi’ portrays the rugged life led by a fisher woman who stands witness to the changing socio-political equations.

The staging of the play assumes importance in the wake of the present scenario where the hapless fisher women are left to bear the brunt of the atrocities forced on their community by the ships owned by corporate giants.

‘Matsyagandi’ explores the life of the fisherfolk who looses their connect with the sea at a time when the natural resources are being converted into commodity. The protagonist in the drama reflect the laments of the community.

The drama is being directed by Act-A Centre for Theatre director Ajayan and  Mary Gracy will enact the role of the protagonist.

The screening is a part of the three-play series organised by the Centre, aiming to address the issues faced by women in our society.

The other plays in the series are ‘Paapathara’, on the story of the same name by Sarah Joseph and ‘Dravidaputhri’, the play based on the poems by Vayalar Rama Varma. ‘Dravidaputhri’ was screened on World Theatre Day.

All the three dramas will be staged next month too.
