After Celebrity Cricket Team ‘Kerala Strikers’, it is the turn of  ‘Cochin Music Challengers’ (CMC) to concoct a perfect brew of sports and entertainment.

‘Cochin Music Challengers’ will be the first-of-its-kind team in the country with playback singers and musicians as its members. “The team was  formed a year ago, then it was nothing more than a friendly and healthy get-together of singers. But, this is the first time we are coming out before the media,” said Ramesh Babu, team captain, CMC at a press meet held here.

Famous playback singers Madhu Balakrishnan, Afsal, Pradeep Babu, Reju Joseph, Yasir, Anwar, Rafeeq, Manaf, Nasar, Nasir, Baiju and Ansar are the other team members. Female playback singer Jyotsna, Ranjini Jose and Sayanora will offer their moral support to the team.

“The success of CCL team Kerala Strikers and the directors club inspired us.   The team aims at providing funds for struggling and ailing musicians,” said Ramesh Babu. CMC will encourage talented singers and musicians who have got their fair share of fame from television and stage shows too. The team started receiving enquiry after few successful international 20-20 tournaments and got registered on December 2012.

CMC members are finding time to practice at the Edappally High School Ground despite their busy schedule. “There are more singers who are eying to be part of the team. We singers also need some physical exercise,” quipped Afsal, a prominent playback singer.

Madhu Balakrishnan, a close relative of cricketer Sreesanth, said: “Cricket and music have a connection as they both have pitch and rhythm.”
