Film appreciation and literary camp begins

The literary and film appreciation camp organised by the Ernakulam Public Library for young aspirants began at the library. The camp inaugurated by noted writer Vaisakhan has an active participation from students.

The camp provides an engaging platform for discussions and interactive sessions on arts, literature, films and various other fields.

It focuses to bridge the relationship between the words and visuals that could enhance the aptitude of students towards the socio-cultural scenario.

“Though Ernakulam Public Library has earlier conducted camps and seminars of this sort, a subject-specific camp like this is the first of its kind,” said camp director S Ramesan. “The participation of more youngsters show their keen interest in disciplines like films, arts and literature. The shift in the trend which sees more youngsters taking part in such activities give immense pleasure and hope,” the camp director said.

The camp began on Monday with 25 registered candidates. There were sessions by Vaisakhan, S K Vasanthan and Murali Puranattukara. Noted Malayalam short story writer Santhosh Echikkanam spoke about the art of story and script writing. 

Addressing a session on Tuesday, writer Sreekumari Ramachandran talked about her journey towards become an accomplished writer. She also mentioned the difficulties faced by young women writers while bringing out their works. The writer described about the role of publishers in the process of establishing a new writer. Creativity and imagination are inevitable for a writer, she said during her interaction. In the coming days, there are major programmes . There will be screening of the film ‘Dreams’ by Akira Kurosawa. An open discussion by M R Rajesh and interactive sessions by veteran artist C N Karunakaran, professor C R Omanakuttan, A Sahadevan, Muse Mary and Priya Nair are some of the attractions. The five-day camp will conclude on Friday, with a valedictory address by noted critic M K Sanu.
