The Central and state governments should take joint efforts to set up a cancer centre in Kochi, P Rajeeve MP has said.

He said that with the coordination of Cochin Medical College, an elaborate project was submitted to the Central Government in 2010.

“This elaborate project envisaged a rehabilitation centre for people with mental disorders and a cancer diagnostic centre with state-of-the-art facilities.

“It was planned to built a diagnostic centre in the FACT land. As a Member of Parliament, I met Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and submitted all the necessary details to him,” he said.

P RajeeveMP said the minister replied to his memorandum on April 6, 2010, in writing that it was a policy matter and could be considered.

“He had written to me that the National Cancer Centre in Kochi at the suggested land is a policy decision to be taken by the Government of India regarding the establishment of national cancer centres and my suggestion will be considered at an appropriate time,” he said.

But since, there has not been any correspondence from the Health Ministry.

“Though we corresponded to the Health Ministry several times, they did not respond on the issue after that,” he stated in a press release.
