Metro land acquisition process in final stage

The district administration has entered into the final phase of the land acquisition process for Kochi Metro Rail. Announcing that the 4(1) notification for acquiring 4.708 hectares of land in seven villages was issued on Friday, Ernakulam District Collector P I Sheik Pareeth said the notification for other stations will be issued soon.

“The 4(1) notification for acquiring land for stations at Pathadipalam, Edappally junction and Elamkulam is yet to be issued. We hope that the Government Order in this regard will be issued in the coming days,” he said.

He said land acquired for the Metro rail stations and parking area will be handed over to the KMRL authorities without any time lapse.

“We are planning to complete the land acquisition for the 22 stations and parking lots between Aluva and Tripunithura Petta before this December. The District Level Purchase Committee will soon convene a meeting to finalise the price of the land that falls in the survey numbers as listed in the 4(1) notification. The district administration had already reached on a consensus with the landowners at an unofficial meeting held last month. However, the final price of the land will be fixed by the  District Level Purchase Committee,” he added.

The area of plots that will be acquired at various villages as per the 4(1) notification are : Aluva West (1.27 ha), Thrikkakara North (0.23 ha), Edappally North (0.17 ha, Edappally South (0.41 ha), Elamkulam (0.41 ha), Ernakulam (0.47 ha) and Punithura (1.74 ha).

Along with plots for the stations, land for parking areas near Metro stations have also been identified.

The teams for land acquisition are led by Deputy Collector (Metro) K P Mohandas Pillai.
