Express News Service

The Kerala Matsya Thozhilali Aikyavedi has registered protest against an order issued by the government to extend the time period of ‘Chemmeen Kettu’ in the Pokkali fields to April 30. The order came into effect after the Fisheries and Ports Department issued a notification in this regard on May 28 last year.Aikyavedi state president Charles George, in a statement issued here, said that the order will adversely affect the traditional method of farming in the areas which come under its scanner. Earlier, farmers in Vypeen, Paravur and Varapuzha used to keep April 14 as the deadline for fishing, to avail one extra month of pre-farming activities. But the latest move has affected the traditional methods.
