Green Award for Kallen Pokkudan

Naturalist Kallen Pokkudan has won the 7th P S Gopinathan Nair Environmental Award for 2014.

Naturalist Kallen Pokkudan has won the 7th P S Gopinathan Nair Environmental Award for ­2014.

The award has been instituted by the Erakulam Karayogam for environmental protection activities in the state.

The jury comprised of former District Collector K R Viswambaran, former TCC MD M P Sukumaran Nair, Cochin University Professor Emiretus E P Yasodaran, K V Ramachandran and M Srivallabhan Nair.

Mangrove Planting

Kallen Pokkudan has been involved in planting mangroves in different part of Kerala since 1989 and has been motivating others in the same direction.

So far, Pokkudan  has planted over one lakh mangroves in association with state government agencies across Kerala.

Kallen Pokkudan  has also conducted more than 500 classes about preservation of mangroves and wetland bio-diversity, in schools and colleges across India.

He has authored several books. ‘Kandal Kaadukallkidayil Ente Jeevitham’, ‘Choottachi’, ‘Ente Jeevitham’ are among Kallen Pokkudan’s noted works.
