KOCHI: To celebrate the second anniversary of her rebirth, Swathi Krishna, who had undergone liver transplant, reached Amrita Institute of Medical Science along with her parents to distribute sweets to all doctors and staff of the transplant team. She had her routine checkup too. She had undergone liver transplant surgery at AIMS on July 14, 2012. The transplant was done by Dr Sudhindran and his team.

Swathi is the younger daughter of Krishnankutty and Raji who reside at Edakkattuvayal. Swathi was admitted to AIMS after having an acute liver failure due to jaundice.

Rainy, who is Swathi’s mother’s sister, was the liver donor. As she was not an immediate relative, many legal issues had to be addressed and due to this the surgery got delayed.

During this, Swathi was struggling for her life in the ventilator.

Due to the strong intervention of the media and the state government the medical board called an emergency meeting to clear the formalities required for the transplant.

Swathi is now a second year BCom student of SH College, Thevara.

As her doctor had advised to reduce body weight, she is also getting trained in ‘Bharatanatyam’.
