The Mattannur sex scam is all set to become a first-of-its-kind in the legal circle with the Ernakulam Additional Sessions Court likely to give verdict in 10 cases of the scam in a single day. The trial of the case has entered the final stages and the verdict is likely to be pronounced by next month.
“There were instances when four and five cases in the scam were disposed of in a single day. But this would be the first time that 10 cases in the scam would be disposed of together. The final hearing and argument will be completed in the coming days. Later, the court will fix the date for giving the order,” the police officials investigating the case said.
As many as 11 cases were registered in the scam and trial of one case had been stayed by the High Court. The court could complete the trial easily as there were several common accused persons in all the cases.
The prosecution case is against Soja James of Kalloorkadu, P B Deepak alias Deepu Pottakkuzhi, Zachariya of Alappuzha, Sekhar, a Central government employee in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, James of Edathatta, and Siraj of Chanthiroor.
The victim, a girl from Mattannur, was taken to different places by Soja James and her accomplice Deepu. They presented her to several customers, who sexually exploited her.
