KOCHI: The Malayalam edition of the Limca Book of Records for 2014, with the theme ‘Empowering Women’, was launched at the Gokulam Convention Centre here on Tuesday.
At the launch function, some of the iconic women achievers of Kerala were felicitated. The event was marked by the Silver Jubilee celebration of the Limca Book of Records by Coco-Cola India.
The women achievers who were honoured at the function were India’s first woman missile scientist and DRDO project director of Agni-IV Tessy Thomas, six-time National Award winning singer K S Chithra, Arjuna Award and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award winner and Padma recipient Anju Bobby George, anti-trafficking crusader and human rights activist Sunitha Krishnan, Rear-Admiral Nirmala Kannan, first woman IPS officer from Kerala R Sreelekha and the State’s first woman journalist Leela Menon.
Speaking on the occasion, Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Zonal VP Sunder Giri said that during its 25 years, the Limca Records Book had touched and influenced the lives of millions of Indians, catapulting them from the ‘usual’ to the ‘special’.
“This year’s theme, ‘Empowering Women’, is a perfect embodiment of the five principles of the Limca Book of Records ‘Passion, Ambition, Excellence, Belief and Tenacity,” he said.
Speaking at the event, Tessy Thomas said that honouring the women achievers was a befitting way to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of the Limca Book of Records.
The event also witnessed Vijaya Ghose, the long-serving editor of the Limca Book of Records, speaking about his successful journey over the years.
“When I got associated with the Limca Book of Records in 1990, it took a lot of hard work, struggle and determination to accomplish the momentous task of putting together the 200-page record book. When the first book was released in 1990, it was one of the biggest achievements in my life,” he said.
As a pre-cursor to the launch, a special panel discussion was organised on the topic “Equality for Women is Progress for All”.
The panel included K S Chithra, Anju Bobby George, R Sreelekha and Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages zonal operations head Ajai Kumar.
Vijaya Ghose, Sunder Giri, Coca-Cola Public Affairs and Communications VP Deepak Jolly, Hindustan Coco-Cola Beverages Public Affairs/Communication and Water Business VP Ashutosh Singh, and Ajai Kumar also spoke at the event.
