KOCHI: The CBSE South Zone Shuttle Badminton Tournament will be conducted at Assisi Vidyaniketan Public School, Kakkanad from October 29 to November 1.  A total of about 155 CBSE schools from the south zone, which includes Kerala, Karnataka, Seemandhra, Telengana, Tamil Nadu and the Andaman & Nicobar lslands, will be participating in the tournament. The tournament will be conducted in three categories under 14,16 and 19. The tournament will be held for both the boys and girls in the six courts at Assisi Vidyaniketan Public School campus. Around 1500  participants, team managers and officials will be a part of the event.

The inaugural ceremony will be presided over by Archbishop of Verapoly, Rev Dr Francis Kallarackal. Arjun M R, a student of Toc-H Public School, Vytilla and who is also an international player and the Asian Champion will be honoured on this occasion. With the aim of spreading awareness about Drug Abuse in the arenas of Sports and Games, and exhorting the youth, the school has taken up this year’s theme as ‘SMASH OUT DRUG ABUSE’.

A poster making and an essay writing competition will be conducted for the students from the schools who are the participating in the tournament. The best entries will be displayed at the venue of the tournament. About 200 students of Assisi Vidyaniketan  will display the cultural heritage of Kerala and do an aerobics mass drill which will be highlighting theme of the tournament. The finals and the closing ceremony will be held on November 1. 

The schools participating in the tourney include Toc-H Public  School, Vyttila; Mont Fort School, Trichy; Chinmaya International Residential School, Tamil Nadu; Bala Vidhya Mandir Sr Sec, Adayar; DAV Sr Sec, Karnataka; Kennedy High Global School, Hyderabad and Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan, Elamakkara
