Cable TV Operators to Adopt Low Cost Solution for Digitisation

Express News Service

KOCHI: As part of the digitisation process, the Kerala Cable TV Federation has decided to launch the new ‘Conax CAS Single Hosting Solution’ in their networks in the State.

The system is designed by Conax, an international company. Office-bearers of the Federation said that the initiative was a part of digitising the cable TV networks. The Conax CAS solution makes the digitisation process cost-effective. According to the Federation, once the Conax CAS solution is launched in Ernakulam, it would be the first place to have such  technology in the country, perhaps in the world.

Earlier, the cost of a similar technology that was installed at a cable TV ‘headend’ was around `40 lakh.

A headend is a master facility for receiving television signals for processing and distributing the same over a network. Then, the digitisation process was a costly affair for the regional channel distributing centres, which used to work on the analog system.

“So, we commenced a research to find a solution which would enable us to retain the low-cost headends, while carrying out the digitisation process. Subsequently, 14 low-cost digital headends were designed, which led to the development of the Conax CAS Single Hosting Solution. The solution has been successfully implemented in cable TV networks in Dhaka, Bangaldesh, from the server installed in Ernakulam. It was inaugurated by PWD Minister V K Ibrahimkunju.
