Kochi: An electronic equipment to control your three-phase motor pump sets through a smart phone app has been developed by Jaacs Job Pottas, an engineering graduate from Muvattupuzha.
He has successfully developed ‘Pumper’, a pump protection and remote control device, that can be connected to your existing motor pump sets. An android application, to be installed in your smart phones enables you to switch on and off the motor pump sets located in your cultivation sites from anywhere in the world. Pumper, set up in your motor room, makes use of GSM network for global connectivity and lets you monitor and protect your pump set.
The device can also be accessed through a phone call, an SMS or a missed call and even from a land phone for those who do not have access to mobile phones. Other than from enabling you to operate your motor remotely, it also protects the motor from single phasing, dry run, over load and voltage imbalance. The motor switches off on its own if any of the above said happens and owner immediately receives a message notifying him/her with the reasons.
Pumper is a blessing for those who have their pump sets located far away from their homes. It saves your time from visiting the area each time to operate your motor but also alerts you immediately in case of fire hazards. The battery with a power back up of more than a day allows the Pumper to respond to you even when there is no power. Not only can you set your pump set to start automatically when there is sufficient voltage after the power failures, but also can schedule it to work for a certain period of time.
The motor can be controlled from five different mobile phones and multiple motors can be controlled from one single phone.
Jaacs has used ‘EfficienSense’ - a unique voltage, current and power factor based sensing algorithm, which ensure no other external sensors, such as water flow sensors, are required, and also further enhances easy installation of the device.
Jaacs says that Pumper comes useful not only in agricultural areas but also in schools, hospitals, factories, and other places located far away.
Jaacs, who hails from a family which has been practicing agriculture for generations, has found experimenting with electronic devices very fascinating since his childhood, worked as a design engineer for electronic devices in a private firm in Dubai and later on in Infopark after his graduation. It was then he left his job to develop this device which will cater to the needs of every farmer.
Jaacs, who is expecting financial supports from the government, the Agriculture Department and other agencies, says that it would be a great encouragement for his efforts to make agriculture much easier for the farmers.
Jaacs Job was recently honored by INFARM (Indian Farmers’ Association) with INFARM - Kisan Excellence Entrepreneurship Award. Pumper has completed a successful experimental run for a period of three months at Vazhakkulam, where various farmers have found the device extremely useful. It comes with a warranty period of one year and a market rate of Rs 8500.
