Nursing Student Falls to Death From Hostel Building

According to eyewitnesses, Dhanya David apparently committed suicide by jumping off the seventh floor of the Lisie Hospital Residential Building

KOCHI: A 20-year-old nursing student died on Saturday after falling from the seventh floor of the hostel building of Lisie Nursing College here.

According to eyewitnesses, Dhanya David, daughter of David of Chalissery House, Thrikkakara, apparently committed suicide by jumping off the seventh floor of the Lisie Hospital Residential Building around 12:30 noon on Saturday. She was a third year nursing student at Lisie Nursing College.

It is learnt that Dhanya left her class at the institute during interval, and went to the hostel situated around 100 metres away. She reached the terrace of the building and jumped down without being noticed by the other students who were present there. People gathered downstairs rushed Dhanya to hospital after the other students cried for help. But, her life could not be saved.  

According to the preliminary inquiry conducted by the police, it is a case of suicide. “The words ‘Sorry Pappa, Sorry Mumma and Sorry Panju’ were written on her hands. Panju is the pet name of her lone brother Francis,” said the police.

The body will be handed over to relatives after postmortem. The father of the deceased is a bank employee, and her brother is working in an oil company in Kuwait.
