KOCHI: Poet S Ramesan Nair, who has been chosen for the Balamani Amma Award, was on Friday presented the top prize by Jnanpith Award winner and Sanskrit scholar Satya Vrat Shastri at a function held on the sidelines of the Kochi International Book Fair.  

Addressing the gathering,  writer C Radhakrishan said the poems of Balamani Amma were a panacea for sorrow, turbulence and grievances of the people.

He hastened to add that the poetry of her genre received little attention nowadays and it adversely affected the concept of motherhood.  Earlier a panel discussion was inaugurated by Anwar Sadath, MLA.
