ASW School Team Wins Pulling Regatta

KOCHI: The Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) School and Diving School won first prize in the Kochi Area Pulling Regatta for the third consecutive year, which was organised by the Southern Naval Command on Monday.

INS Garuda won the second prize in the race, which was held under six different categories along a 1.6-Km course in the Ernakulam channel. The Venduruthy-Vikrant bridge was the  starting point of the race.

A signature event of the Navy that is characterised by the highest standard of physical and mental application, team work, coordination and sustained hard work, the Kochi Area Pulling Regatta is one of the most prestigious Naval sports activity held every year. Southern Naval Command Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Vice Admiral Sunil Lanba  presented awards to the winners in the presence of a large gathering of Naval personnel.

Last year, ASW School and Diving School had won the Godavari Trophy for the best overall performance in all the sporting activities held during the year.

At Monday’s function, awards for the kayaking and canoeing championships for the year 2015-16 were also presented. Speaking on the occasion, the Admiral emphasised on the role played by sporting events in character building.
