KOCHI: One of the 6 top contestants of 'Superstar 2', a musical reality show aired by Amrita TV's in 2009, Remya Vinayakumar has been into singing right from her childhood.
Currently a final year M Tech student at Sahridaya College of Engineering and Technology in Thrissur, Remya has also made forays into playback singing in Malayalam, Kannanda, Beary and Tamil. She has sung in the Tamil movie 'Ettuthikkum Mathayaanai' with music by Manu Rameshan and the national award winning film 'Byari' in the Beary language under music director Viswajith. "I have sung in the Kannada movie 'Mariyaathai' for which the songs were composed by Benny Ignatius," says Remya.
She got the opportunity to sing under Viswajith again and this time in the Malayalam film 'Race'. "I got more opportunities to sing in the films with 'Annum Innum Ennu' (music direcor- Varun) and the latest 'Thilothama'."
She has rendered jingles for popular programmes in television namely 'Veruthe Alla Bharya Season 1 and 2' in Mazhavil Manorama. "I rendered the title song for Amrita TV's cookery show 'Taste of Kerala', 'Comedy Festival' in Mazhavil Manorama and have done a clutch of jingles for jewellery promos," says the young singer.
Accolades have come her way and the one worth mentioning is her nomination for the State award for the best playback singer in the year 2013. She was nominated for the song 'Ruhe' in the movie 'Avicharitha'. The music for the film was by Sudeep Palanad.
Remya has been training in Carnatic music for the past 20 years under the tutelage of Kala Parasuram, Mangatt Nateshan and Arakkal Nandakumar. "I have also been training for the past 6 years in light music and my guru is Sunny Sonnet," says the engineering student.
She is a vocalist in Stephen Devassy's Solid Band, a fusion band since 2010 and has performed in over 1,000 live concerts in more than 15 countries.
