Chandy's defamation plea against Saritha Nair: hearing adjourned

KOCHI: The Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court has adjourned to June 21 hearing of the defamation petition field by former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy against Solar scam accused Saritha S Nair.

Oommen Chandy had lodged a defamation case against Saritha, key accused in the Solar scam case, and four journalists of Asianet News channel and Kairali TV.

The first to fourth accused in the case, related to airing of a 25-page letter Saritha allegedly wrote in police custody in 2013,  are Asianet news editor M G Radhakrishnan, Asianet senior news editor Vinu V John, Kairali TV chief news editor Manoj K Varma and Kairali TV senior news editor K Rajendran. The news was telecast on April 3 and 4, 2016.The complainant stated that Saritha published a ‘truncated letter,’ acting in collusion with the journalists, wherein she alleged that she was raped by the complainant at his official residence at Cliff House in  Thiruvananthapuram.

“Commonsense fails to comprehend as to how such an incident could occur at Cliff House, where the complainant is residing with his family and security guards,” stated the complaint.
