KOCHI: The pathetic condition of Perandoor canal, which flows through the heart of the city, has always been a matter of great concern for the civic administrators. Illegal dumping of waste and non-removal of silt are cited as the major reasons for the bad state of the canal.

Now, the NeST Group has launched a demo project to help the Corporation find a pragmatic and lasting solution to clean the canal in a time-bound manner. Powered by the Japanese ‘nanobubble technology’, the project mainly aims at bringing in an apt and sustainable solution to the vexed problem of cleaning up polluted water bodies.

“The trend-setting water purification system uses microbubble technology to clean contaminated water in water bodies. The exercise will prove how the new technology can provide a lasting solution and provide humanity with the much-awaited breakthrough in this field so that respective agencies can take up cleaning of the remaining stretch of Peranadoor canal and other water bodies,” said the promoters of the project.

Mayor Soumini Jain launched the project by switching on the canal water purification unit here on Sunday.  Initially, the project will cover one-kilometre stretch of the Thevara-Perandoor canal.
