KOCHI: The Corporation Council honoured the city's former Mayors and Deputy Mayors, besides paying tribute to those who had passed away at a function held at the Council Hall. The meet was organised in connection with the civic body's golden jubilee celebrations. Mayor Soumini Jain paid tributes to former Mayors, including Mercy Williams, the city's first woman Mayor, who passed away. Deputy Mayors  C K Gopalan, V  V  Michel, Everest Chammany, E J Antony, Sabu George and M A Sadanandan were also honoured at the function.

Former Mayors K  M Hamsakunju, Mathew Paily, C M Dinesh Mani and Tony Chammany also spoke. They shared their experiences during their tenure with the councillors. Some of the former heads of the civic body urged the present councillors to come up with sustainable development models which could improve the city's infrastructure.

“The council should come up with an action plan for the city's development. The ingress of politics has lowered the quality of the business of local bodies across the state. Kochi should create a model for development, which others could emulate," said Tony Chammany.
