KOCHI: A 43-year-old man from Chullikkal near Thoppumpady on Saturday met with a grisly end after being bludgeoned to death by his brother. Nelson’s head, shoulder and ribs were smashed with a grinding stone. The accused Babu, 56, who was taken into custody for the murder, had earlier allegedly killed another brother Milton, Palluruthy police said. Officers said the accused, who came home drunk, had an altercation with Nelson which resulted in the violent crime.

On being summoned, a police team rushed to the spot and moved Nelson to hospital. He, however, succumbed to the injuries later, they said. The police also collected scientific evidence from the scene of the crime and recovered the grinding stone used to commit the ghoulish act. The accused will be produced before the Magistrate Court on Sunday.

This is the second time Babu, an accused in a couple of other criminal cases, is being arrested for alleged fratricide. Last year, Palluruthy police had arrested Babu in connection with the murder of Milton following a dispute over the partition of the family’s ancestral property at Chulikkal. Babu had stabbed Milton 18 times. Following this, he fled to Karnataka. Later he was arrested and remanded. After several months the court granted bail to him. Babu had been jailed for two years for sexually abusing a three year- old girl at Kannur in 2011.
