KOCHI:  The team led by Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) on Wednesday gave the green signal for service extension plans of Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) up to Maharaja's College Ground on October 3. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the new stretch at a function at the Ernakulam Town Hall. Union Minister for Urban Development Hardeep Singh Puri will also attend the inaugural function. The CMRS gave its nod for the service extension plans after conducting a two-day inspection. At present, KMRL services extend between Aluva and Palarivattom.  KMRL hopes passenger numbers will increase with the service extension to Maharaja's Ground providing access to the city centre.
