Kochi man involved in over 50 robbery cases held

KOCHI: The Ernakulam Rural Police on Friday arrested a person who was allegedly involved in more than 50 robbery cases in various parts of the district. K Suresh alias Dracula Suresh, 37, a resident of Vadayambadi near Puthenkurishu, was arrested by the Kunnathunadu police.

According to police, Suresh used to loot shops and houses during broad day light. He was arrested following an investigation carried out by cops in connection with the robbery at two shops in Pattimattom on July 6. The accused was nicknamed 'Dracula' as he carried out robbery frequently by adopting new tricks.

“He was involved in the robbery incident when the shop owner was at a mosque to offer Friday prayers. Three mobiles and Rs 10,000 were lost from these shops. However, we could retrieve images and videos of the accused from the CCTV cameras installed at these shops.

After verifying the list of criminals recently released from jail, we could successfully identify him," a police officer said. Later, based on the investigation, the police could successfully track down Suresh. "During the interrogation, he confessed to the thefts he was involved including a recent one at another shop in Muvattupuzha from where he decamped with Rs 12,000," a police officer said.

According to the police, Suresh was released from the district jail in Kakkanad on June 27. "There are more than 50 cases registered against him at Puthenkurishu, Muvattupuzha, Chottanikkara and Ramamangalam police stations.
