KOCHI:Though they were contemporaries in same place and both born in 1911, Changampuzha Krishna Pillai and Vyloppilli Sreedhara Menon, the two great Malayalam poets, were very different in their outlooks and writings, said writer and critic Prof M K Sanu on Monday.

He was speaking at the inaugural session of the lecture series ‘Writer of the Land’ at U C College, Aluva, a build-up event to Krithi 2019, the second edition of  the international festival of books, to be held from Feb 8 to 17, 2019 in Kochi.

In many of his poems, Changampuzha seemed to have worshipping death while what Vyloppilli famously asked was if the flag of life can ever be lowered by the aggressive death. Both experienced poverty and destitution in their childhood but they constructed their poetic minds differently. Dr. Thara K Simon, principal, U C College, S Ramesan, general convener, Krithi and Dr Muse Mary George also spoke on the occasion.
