KOCHI: The Atlantis Rail Overbridge (RoB) project to connect M G Road and Panampilly Nagar, which was one of the long-pending demands of the city, finally got a lease of life after funds were allotted on Wednesday under the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB). The government has allotted Rs 89 crore for the project.

“The project is essential to ease the traffic in the area. During the previous UDF Government’s tenure, Rs 70 crore was allotted for the project under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). Seventy per cent of the land acquisition was completed by utilising these fund. A detailed project report was submitted to KIIFB by the Roads and Bridges Development Corporation, Kerala,” said Hibi Eden MLA.

He said the project will change the very face of Kochi. “We hope the state government will take steps to launch the project at the earliest,” said the MLA.
