Two killed after bike crashes into bridge handrail in Tripunithura

The deceased have been identified as Nivedita (21) from Meppadi, Wayanad, and Subin (19) from Kollam, police said.

KOCHI: Two youngsters died after the motorcycle in which they were travelling crashed into the handrail of Mathur Railway Over Bridge (ROB) at Tripunithura in the wee hours of Monday.

The deceased are Subin S, 19, of Velichikkala, Pallimon, Kollam and Nivedhitha K, 21, of Ambalakunnu, Meppadi, Wayanad. According to police, the accident took place around 1.30 am when they were travelling from Tripunithura to Eroor.

While descending the Mathur ROB, Subin lost control of the motorcycle and the vehicle hit a handrail. Both of them fell to the road and suffered serious head injuries.

The duo was rushed to a nearby hospital, where they succumbed to injuries. Police suspect overspeeding was the cause of the accident. Hill Palace police registered a case.
