THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Rajiv Gandhi Academy for Aviation Technology here is entering its 50th year of service in September. As part of the golden jubilee celebrations, the academy is trying to trace its old students and members.
Founded by Colonel Goda Varma Raja in 1959 in the name Kerala Flying Club, the institute has contributed hundreds of pilots to the nation over these years.
The institution was rechristened as Kerala Aviation Training Centre in 1980 and later, in 2006, it was converted into a society owned by the State Government. It was subsequently renamed as Rajiv Gandhi Academy for Aviation Technology.
From Pushpak aircraft to the latest Cessna 172 R, the academy has imparted flying training in various aircraft like Chipmunk, Swati, Cessna 152 A and Hansa. The academy is now offering training for private pilot licence and commercial pilot licence.
As part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, the Academy is seeking details of the old students, instructors and flying members. Executive director of the institution V. Thulasidas said in a statement that the old students, instructors and flying members may give their address, telephone number, e-mail ID and other contact details so that they can be invited to the golden jubilee celebrations.
