THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: George Mathew, station head of BIG 92.7 FM, has become the first proud owner of the Royal Enfield Classic 500 in the city.

He was handed the key by Marikar Motors divisional manager Rajesh Nair on Monday.

A hard core Royal Enfield fan, George has realised his long-time dream of owning the gorgeous two-wheeler. The man, who loves to travel, expects his new bike to be a faithful companion in his long trips.

``I love travelling. When I was in Bangalore, I used to travel with friends on motorcycles along the Western Ghats,’’ he said.

The new Enfield Classic is inspired by an old World War II model Enfield. The innovative Classic has inherited the design of its ancestor, blended with latest technology.

The bike costs around Rs 1.40 lakh on road. Classic is the first Bullet from Enfield having a Uni Construction Engine with fuel injection technology.

The Classic model comes in 500 cc and 350 cc with 27.2 bhp. It also has a seven-plate clutch assembly, which makes it easy to handle. Mileage is about 35-40 km per litre for the 500 cc model and around 50 km per litre for the 350 cc version.

Already, 42 bookings have been made for both the models of Classic at Marikar, who are the sole dealers of the bike here.
