The news of Indu Thampy bagging the Miss Kerala title sure does the All Saints’ College proud, but then it seems everyone here had always known that laurels were in store for that starry-eyed dame. “Indu was Miss All Saints’ in 2008-2009, and she was one of the best students we have had, always spirited and active,” the College principal Esther Jayanthi told `Expresso’, her voice full of affection that a teacher would have for a dear pupil. She remembers Indu as a very “humble, dedicated and sincere” student who “shouldered responsibilities with much enthusiasm”. The crown must rest lightly on a girl who evokes such a rush of fond memories in people.

Indu was in the College for the three years of her degree course which she completed in 2010. And the vivacious young lady had ruled the roost when she was around, if the unanimous cheering in her honour is anything to go by. By the time she walked away with a first class in BA literature, she had made a mark as a promising talent, donning the role of Union Chairman and taking part in every co-curricular activity, but never compromising on the academics.

As Khyrunnisa A, lecturer in the English Department, puts it, “it would seem she takes things very lightly, but then she is very intelligent. Must be a hard working girl, because, even with all the extra-curricular activities and the Union Chairmanship, she was consistently good in her academics.” Her teacher also adds that the charming girl had a way of winning hearts with her simple and no-airs attitude. The same winning qualities must have helped her steal the hearts on the D-day!

Says Nikita, now doing her MA in English at the College and a classmate of Indu’s elder sister Rashmi, “Indu and her sister were active in everything from drama to dance. Infact, when Indu won the Miss All Saints’ title, she was crowned by her sister Rashmi”.

Well, indeed, the two talented sisters had vied for the crown at the Miss Kerala Beauty pageant too. Rashmi lost out before the five finalists were chosen but sure must have been on cloud nine when her sister won it for both of them.

Bhavana, final year BCom student, was brimming with joy at her friend’s rocking show. “She sent us all an SMS past midnight saying that she had won. It’s actually no surprise, because she is such a sport that she can steal the show anytime. Indu was part of Esther, a drama club in our college. She and her team were the winners in the Thiruvathira contest at the University youth festival. And she was the best outgoing student last year. Simply put, she was all in all in the College,” Bhavana manages to put it in a nut shell, between excitedly calling out to ‘Achu’ to make sure she was getting all the information right about their friend who had suddenly turned a star.

The gang is on an eager wait to hear from Indu, to know when she is landing on the campus. “We have planned a big welcome for her, just want her to come soon,” says Bhavana for a whole bunch of buddies awaiting their very own beauty queen.
