First phase of immunisation held

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The district-level inauguration of the first phase of this year’s pulse polio immunisation programme was held at Women and Child Hospital, Thycaud, on Sunday. Mayor C. Jayan Babu inaugurated the programme.

 As per the statement issued by the District Medical Office, Thiruvananthapuram, the vaccination programme received tremendous response, especially at railway stations and bus stands. The aim of the Office was to administer oral polio vaccine to 2,66,615 children below the age of five in the district through 2,133 booths. The booths were arranged in government and private hospitals, health centres, anganwadis, bus stands and railway stations.

 The district-level inauguration was presided over by V. Sivankutty MLA.

 Additional Director of Health Dr Kumari G. Prema was the chief guest. District Medical Officer Dr N. Sridhar, hospital superintendent Dr Chandni Devi, Health Department deputy director Dr Dileep, councillor B. Lakshmi and RMO Dr Sreeja were among those present at the function. The District Medical Office has informed that if the vaccine was not administered to the child on Sunday, it can be given during the next two days.
