In March, Lata Mangeshkar had written to the Hindi Prachar Sabha expressing her pleasure in having been able to sing with Yesudas.

‘’Yesudas is a great personality. He has sung many songs for Hindi films, all of which have become superhits. I am happy to have been able to sing with such a great artiste,’’ Lata wrote.

The Hindi Prachar Sabha had requested Lata Mangeshkar to write a few words about Yesudas for its magazine ‘Keral Jyothi.’

On Wednesday, the Kerala Assembly had organised a felicitation to Yesudas on his completing 50 years in playback singing. He was described as a singer extraordinaire who shaped Malayalees’ taste for music and as the possessor of a voice which lent the most sublime expression to the beauty of the Malayalam language.
