Udiyannoor Pongala begins on April 24

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The ‘Pongala’ festival of Sree Udiyannoor Devi Temple here will be held from April 24 to May 3. Temple thantri D Sreedharan Namoodiri of Puthumana Illam, Ambalappuzha, will hoist the festival flag on April 24 after the ‘deeparadhana’ ritual in the evening.

 The Pongala will be held on April 28 at 10.35 am. It will be followed by the rituals of ‘kanji veezhthu’ (11 am), ‘kalabhabhishekam’ (11 am) and ‘pongala nivedyam’ (11.50 am).

The ‘para ezhunnallippu’ will be held on April 25, 26 and 27.

The temple administration committee said that an annual award has been instituted from this year to honour a renowned personality from any of the fields of art, culture and healthcare. Chief Secretary K Jayakumar will present the first award to RCC founder-director Dr M Krishnan Nair on April 28 at 5.30 pm.
