‘Bomb scare’ at Railway Station

Express News Service

Thursday afternoon presented a few tense moments for the passengers at Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station following a ‘bomb scare.’

The fear caused by fast-moving men in uniform, sniffer dogs and gun-wielding RPF personnel soon fizzled out after the City Police Commissioner announced that the scare was a hoax and was part of the mock drill organised to check the capability of the security agencies in dealing with contingencies.

It all began with the Police Control Room getting a ‘call’ by 2 p.m. that an abandoned suitcase was found at the railway station. The police, bomb squad and the Railway Protection Force rushed to the area and found the suite case from which a ticking sound was heard. On inspecting the suitcase, the police also found some electric wires. The suitcase was taken to the Police Training College for ‘defusing.’
