THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Tearful relatives and friends bid adieu to Kalesh and Adithyan on Tuesday. Kalesh, 30, and his son Adithyan, 3, lost their lives in the flash floods on Saturday.

Both were cremated at the same time on the premises of Kalesh’s wife Raji’s home at Ponnanchundu, near Vithura. Adithyan, while playing in the rain, was swept away by the flash floods. Kalesh had gone missing in an attempt to rescue his son.

Adithyan was found in the nearby bushes and breathed his last on way to the hospital. His body was kept in the Medical College Hospital mortuary. Kalesh’s body was found on Monday after a long search. Adithyan was Kalesh’s only child.

Before taking to Ponnanchundu, the bodies were taken from Medical College Hospital to Kalesh’s home, Panayilveedu, at Kowdiar. Hundreds of people had gathered there. They included Speaker G Karthikeyan, Revenue Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Transport Minister V S Sivakumar, K Muraleedharan MLA and Mayor K Chandrika.

Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said that the Government would consider giving more financial assistance to Kalesh’s family other than what it had announced as immediate relief. “We will discuss it in the cabinet meeting,” he said.

The torrential rains, caused by the cyclone Thane effect, from Friday night and which continued for ten hours, claimed the lives of six persons.
