Gandhian ideology could resolve the problems faced by the country today, Rural Affairs Minister K C Joseph said. Inaugurating the state-level Gandhi Jayanthi celebrations here on Tuesday, the Minister said that Gandhian ideology would not lose relevance with the passage of time. He also hoped that the country would become the second super power in the world in two decades.
The minister also opened a painting exhibition on Gandhi’s life and a photo exhibition on Gandhian P Gopinathan Nair at the VJT Hall. P Gopinathan Nair presided over the celebrations. Deseeya Balatharangam chairman Saratchandra Prasad, DPI A Shajahan, State Institute of Languages director M R Thampan and Malayinkeezhu Venugopal of Satyagraha Foundation spoke at the function. PRD director A Firoz welcomed the gathering and additional director Jacob Samson proposed a vote of thanks.
Campaign against alcohol, drug abuse: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will launch an awareness campaign against alcohol and drug abuse as part of the Gandhi Jayanthi Week celebrations at VJT Hall here on Wednesday at 11.30 a.m. Fisheries and Excise Minister K Babu will preside over the function. Actress Sheela will be the chief guest.
Mayor K Chandrika will deliver the keynote address. All-India Gandhi Smarak Nidhi chairman P Gopinathan Nair, Corporation Welfare standing committee chairman Palayam Rajan, Excise Commissioner X Anil, RCC RMO Dr C V Prasanth and joint excise commissioner R K Sreekumaran Chetty will address the function. An awareness class will be held at the same venue from 10 a.m. to be led by C V Prasanth. An essay contest for college students will be held at 2 p.m. Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb will inaugurate a seminar on ‘Gandhi’s ideology and value-based education at 2.30 p.m. DPI A Shajahan will deliver the keynote address.
