Poet Sugathakumari on Monday evening held talks with CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan to find out a solution to the Vilappilsala anti-garbage plant agitation.

After the talks held at the AKG Centre, she told reporters that Pinarayi assured all help to solve the issue. Thiruvananthapuram Mayor K Chandrika was also present at the meeting. Sugatha Kumari along with Congress Leader V M Sudheeran held talks with Manjalamkuzhy Ali. “In the meeting, the Minister said that the plant will not be reopened. He said that he could not announce it in public as the case was now being considered by the High Court,” she said.

Earlier in the day, Sugathakumari visited the protest venue and conveyed Urban Affairs Minister Manjalamkuzhy Ali’s assurance that the demands of the protestors would be met. She also urged Vilappilsala panchayat president S Sobhana Kumari to end the indefinite strike. However, the protestors said that they would withdraw from the strike only after the government issued an order in this regard.
