An Additional Sub Inspector (ASI) attached to the city police control room was found hanging in a lodge room at Jagathy here on Friday. The deceased was identified as Sreekantan Nair, 56, of Kurishumuttam ,Vilavoorkkal. Police said that it was a case of suicide and it was suspected that he killed himself owing to the mental agony over a case pending against him. He was about to retire from service this month.
Sreekantan Nair had left a suicide note, a copy of which had been sent to media by post, saying that he feared his retirement benefits may be affected owing to a case pending against him as part of his official duty.
His daughter’s marriage was fixed for April. Sreekantan Nair took a room at the lodge on Thursday evening. The lodge staff forcibly opened the door of the room as there was no response on Friday morning.Sreekantan Nair is survived by wife Anitha Kumari, son Sreejith and daughter Sreepooja.
The body was handed over to relatives after postmortem.
