After winding up a day’s work, the techies in Technopark are as lively as they are at the start of a day. At the tennis court-turned-football ground on the campus, high floodlights are on and wearing the jerseys representing their companies they literally set the ball rolling by playing Futsal, a mini-soccer usually played indoors.
The Futsal tournament is being conducted by ‘Sportz4you’, a company formed by a three-member techie team - Rahul Anthony, Arun V Nair and Anoop Ashok - for inculcating a healthy lifestyle through sports among the IT professionals. The Futsal tournament, named ‘Corporate Futsal’, is held from 6 pm to 9 pm.
“During free time, we used to engage in sports. It was understanding the need for building a healthy regime for the techies that we launched the company after quitting our earlier jobs,” said Anoop Ashok of Sportz4you.
‘’Considering the summer heat in the morning time, the tournament was arranged in the evening,’’ he said.
‘’When the tournament was announced, a whopping 38 companies responded and finally 32 were chosen to play. Of these, 13 are women’s teams, for whom the matches will begin tomorrow,’’ he added.
Futsal is played between teams with five players each, one of whom will be a goalkeeper. The game is played on a hard court surface. It is played with a smaller ball with lesser bounce than a regular football.
Following Futsal, the company is planning to scale up the activities by hosting cricket and basketball tourneys in the indoor stadium. The group also envisages tie-ups with international sports schools and arranging special sports sessions for schools.
