It was a big day for Rohin A B of Sravana Samsara Higher Secondary School, Palakkad, on Thursday. At the Special School Arts Fest, which is underway in the city, he won the folk dance event - his fourth in a row - and stood third in mono act with an ‘A’ grade.

Rohin won the folk dance event presenting the tale of Aromal Chekavar. ‘’He is one of our best students. He is highly talented and very studious and makes us proud,’’ said Santhakumari, principal of Sravana Samsara Higher Secondary School. Rohin has been a student of the school from kindergarten onwards.

Now 17, Rohin is also trained in Bharatanatyam, and dreams of landing a government job one day. Nabeesa, his class teacher, spoke of his interest in dance and drawing.

‘’He is very punctual in submitting the assignments as well as projects. He secured eight A+ and two A grades in the SSLC exam,’’ she said.

Rohin has been a regular participant in contests held to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities and has bagged several prizes.

‘’I usually train him for a month ahead of a competition. He picks up things fast. In fact, I teach him the same way I teach my regular students,’’ said K R Appukuttan, the dance teacher of Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Palakkad, who trains Rohin.

Rohin lives with his parents Balachandran and Rema in Palakkad, and has an elder sister.
