Maintaining her winning streak, one of the most promising national cycle polo players, Miya Krishna from West Hill, Kozhikode, eyes a wonderful journey in the world of cycle polo.

At present she is getting ready to participate with her team in the coming revenue district inter-school cycle polo tournament.

Her romance with the game started when she was a class five student at St Michael’s Girls Higher Secondary School, West Hill.

“I was addicted to hockey those days. It was my sports teacher Sony Joseph who directed me to attend a camp on cycle polo,” she says.

On her love for the game, she says the game is second to none for her at present.

“You can’t see me getting bored with the game since my love for it escalates day by day,” she smiles.

Daughter of a businessman in Kozhikode, Krishna Das, and beautician Mary Joseph, Miya aspires to be an English teacher.

“She used to go to school on a bicycle. We were not aware about the risks involved in the game earlier. Even after realising it, we did not say no to her because she was that much interested in the game,” says her mother Mary. Though she did not get a chance to play in the national tournament in 2009, she somehow managed to make her presence felt in the 2010 camp and her team walked away with a silver medal.

Miya becomes eloquent on her cycle polo coach Nidhin Kakkodi, “During the national tournament we had a tough competition with the Chhattisgarh team. If Nidhin was not with us, there would not have been a team for us.” Miya believes Nidhin’s proper training and instructions made her a nationallevel player. “The game demands confidence and courage. I found in Miya a player with utmost commitment,” says assistant coach Prajulesh N K.

“Since there is no age limit for the game in the senior category, I will continue to be a part of the game,” says Miya.

One of the impediments she faces now is the absence of a spacious ground for her to practise. “We used to practise in the Polytechnic ground and the Physical Education College ground.

Recently, they expressed their objection to our practice there. According to them, practising on a bicycle may damage their playground,” says Miya.
