THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: If people are trying to please God through bloodshed and mass murder, then they should understand that there is no such God, Cardinal Mar Baselios Cleemis said on Wednesday.

“God is where life thrives,’’ he said, inaugurating a signature campaign for world peace organised by the Malankara Social Service Society (MSSS), Swasthi Foundation and St Mary’s School, Pattom.

The Cardinal also urged the people to awaken to the horror of war. Hundreds of people participated in the signature campaign,  ‘Stop War! Stop Human Suffering!’, which was held from 11 am to 4 pm at St Mary’s Cathedral grounds urging humanity to end the wars in Iraq, Palestine, Libya and the Ukraine.

Bishop Samuel Mar Irenios, actor Jagadeesh, Swami Gururetnam Jnanatapaswi of Santhigiri Ashram, MSSS director Dr Bovas Mathew, Fr Nelson Valiyaveetil and Eby George spoke.

The principal of St Mary’s School Rev Varkey Attipurathu presented a resolution and former DGP Jacob Punnoose read out the ‘peace oath.’
