THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy launched the Tharodayam Charitable Society’s ‘Sachin Hunt’, a state-wide talent hunt to unearth cricket stars in Kerala, at Medical College Ground here the other day.
The tournament will be held in three tiers - sub-district, district and state levels - with over 1,500 matches slated to be played at around 100 venues across the state. The organisers claim a tournament of such magnitude will be a world record.
“Such tournaments will help produce several cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar from Kerala,” commented Chandy inaugurating the project. “Such initiatives will develop patriotism as well as discipline among the new generation and will receive the backing of the public as well as that of all government departments,” he said on Independence Day.
The tournament will commence on September 20 at 14 district-taluk centres in the state. Interested school teams must register before September 15. For more details, contact 8590817371.
