Chennithala to Support SN Trust Institutions

Express News Service

KOLLAM: Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has  extended support to the progress of the educational institutions under the SN Trust. “The government will ensure that the educational institutions under the SN Trust started by R Sankar would be preserved,” Chennithala said while inaugurating the R Sankar remembrance meet organised jointly by the SN Trust Medical Mission, SNDP Yogam and Kollam Union on Friday late evening on the 42nd death anniversary of former CM.  “There is no justification for the delay on the part of the Education Department to fill the teachers’ vacancies in SN Colleges and I will point this out in the next Cabinet meet,” he said.

Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan said that Sankar erected the wall so that he could draw pictures. But he lamented the government policies which had hindered the growth of the education initiatives by the Trust. “Sankar created 12 aided colleges in his lifetime but we could add just 3 after his death mainly due to the policies of the government. In the self-financing colleges we could manage 25 more only in the past two years as the government relaxed the land requirements.

“The discrimination was evident during Plus-II allocation. Recently the State Govt has tried to sabotage the norms of UGC to deny autonomous status to our colleges,” Vellappally said.

Before the remembrance meet, a floral bouquet was offered at the resting place of Sankar by the Home Minister and Vellappally flanked by Minister Adoor Prakash, Yogam President M N Soman, Mohan Sankar, Medical Mission secretary G Jayadevan, Trust board members Preethi Natesan and N Rajendran.
